Something happened during our bible study today and the holy spirit quickened something in my spirit. We read 2Cor6 and as usual our focus was on “Do not be unequally yoke together with unbelievers”.

Have you heard that phrase before and what normally comes to your mind? Marriage! – Do not marry an unbeliever or don’t do business with them. The truth is there is nothing about marriage in that chapter or the one before it (chp5) or after it (chapt7).

So, what is that scripture talking about?

The context is in Vs1&2 and then the word “UNEQUALLY YOKE” which means don’t put 2 animals that do not have the same nature (for example an Ox and Ass)  together to plough a farm – One will slow down the other because they have different potentials (Gifts or grace). This where 2Cor6:1-2 comes in “Now, since we are God’s co-workers, we beg you not to take God’s marvellous grace for granted, allowing it to have no effect on your lives. God says I heard you at the right time, and I gave you help on the day of salvation.  So, can’t you see? Now is the time to respond to his favour!

To be unequally yoke means to be in association with people (those who do not go to church and Christians) to the point that they frustrate the grace of God on your life. You allow them to make the word of God of no effect. Watch out for the video!

What is “The Context”?  According to the dictionary it is “the circumstances that form the setting for an event, statement, or idea, and in terms of which it can be fully understood”
