We are supernatural beings controlled by the realm of unseen. The purpose of this post is to help us understand spiritual governance and it’s role in our lives.

We have cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night according to the established principle of Gen8:22 and no one can do anything about it. Our lives are governed by established spiritual principles whether we believe it or not and certain things will not happen until we submit ourselves to the working of these principles.

I pray that the lord will enlighten you and give you more understanding about how things works in his kingdom especially Spiritual governance!!! God cannot do certain things in our lives because it will violate  the established principles of his Kingdom.  

I want to talk about an important principle today – “Obeying them that have rule over you” It is important for us to understand how God view those who are ahead of us. When Jesus came to John for baptism he said “No” but Jesus answered, “Let it be this way for now. We should do whatever God says is right.” Then John agreed -Matt3:15 (ERV).

We have a dysfunctional society today because there is lack of understanding and no regard for this important principle about letting people who are over us do their work in our lives by obeying them.

The aspect of Heb13:17 that caught my attention was “for they watch over your souls” Hebrews 13:17 (MSG) Be responsive to your pastoral leaders. Listen to their counsel. They are alert to the condition of your lives and work under the strict supervision of God. Contribute to the joy of their leadership, not its drudgery. Why would you want to make things harder for them?

I have a question for you – who is watching over your soul?

Important decision in life are taken about people who watch over your souls and in most cases those decisions are taken in your absence. You can put in your best performance at the interview but the final decision will be taken in your absence!

There are many people today without a father and some don’t even think it is important.

Christians have many instructors but no one really watching over their souls. Paul said “For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet ye have not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the Gospel ” 1Cor4:15.

Who is your father? Who can God talk to about things that may affect you like he talked to Abraham concerning Sodom and Gomorrah in Gen18:19-33 because of Lot. God will not do anything on earth without telling his servants – . Abraham watched over the soul of Lot in prayer and his prayer saved him from the destruction of Sodom.

Please don’t be among the multitudes in a Megachurch without someone watching over your soul! Jesus effectually pastored 120 people or maybe the 12 that God gave him and he kept all of them – Jn17:12. Some years ago, I visited a man in the hospital because he wanted me to come and pray for him and one day as I began to take authority of his body , I heard a voice clearly “you cannot take authority over him because he is not one of your sheep, he has not submitted himself to you” This is when I understood what Jesus said in Jn17:12 . Please don’t join yourself to who will not give account over your soul and act on your behalf.

Pastors , many will come to us because of the gift but we are appointed to shepherd few. We must be like Jesus to them- Jesus said “I spelled out your character in detail to the men and women you gave me”-John 17:6.

We cannot choose our Father whether biological or spiritual! Our biological father is very important and we must respect them but our real father is the person that shows us the ways of the Lord. God appointed another father for Samuel because his biological father (Elkanah) did not know the voice of the Lord. A father who will get you earthly blessing is not enough , you need someone like Eli who will teach you how to recognise the voice of the Lord (1Sam3:8-9). We must honour our parents in the Lord so we can live well and live long -Eph6:1-3

God didn’t just appoint Elisha, he placed a father over his life to watch over him. Elijah had many students in the school of prophets but only one became his son. Elisha started as one of the servants of Elijah but when Elijah was about to be taken he cried “My Father , my Father” -2Kings2:12. He didn’t get the mantle because he was faithful servant , he got it as a Son!

Spiritual heritage are passed on to sons and not servants!

I know Jesus is the shepherd of our souls. However, he has appointed  under shepherds to watch over the souls of his children on earth.

I ask the question again – who is watching over your soul?

I pray that God will enlighten you to see this spiritual truth and make necessary correction. I pray that  God to reveal to you  who he has appointed to show you the way of the Lord.

Hebrews 13:17 (AMP) Obey your [spiritual] leaders and submit to them [recognizing their authority over you], for they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare as those who will give an account [of their stewardship of you]. Let them do this with joy and not with grief and groans, for this would be of no benefit to you.

John 17:12 (AMPC) While I was with them, I kept and preserved them in Your Name [[a]in the knowledge and worship of You]. Those You have given Me I guarded and protected, and not one of them has perished or is lost except the son of perdition [Judas Iscariot-the one who is now doomed to destruction, destined to be lost], that the Scripture might be fulfilled.
